Right now hundreds of thousands of people are walking toward August 27 fully expecting, not expecting disappointment, the confirmed gameplay, and if what shows up is simply behind-the-scenes featurette or a developer interview, they’ll be furious and may even start to ratio/hate and dislike our beloved studio Rockstar Games. What does the six-hour exclusive window actually mean?

For Netflix it means an absolutely whopping six hours where the most anticipated video on the planet lives on their app and nowhere else, being the big dawg around here say less. Subscriptions, engagement, cultural moments, all of it funnelling through them. Obvious win.

Rockstar’s giving up almost nothing. Six hours, then they’ve still got their entire own audience because the video’s free that same night. Take-Two’s Strauss Zelnick called it a major marketing moment heading into the final stretch, the final dance (GTA BOOM).
